I had a look & it seems that their energy saving claims are

unrealistic. The premise is that it allows the refrigeration system to

acting thermostat that cycled every time someone opened the door, that it

would reduce unnecessary compressor starts -- but the energy saving part
doesn't add up. If, without the ecube you use more energy, you also
extract more heat & make the fridge colder. I doubt this happens because
the thermostat would just turn off the compressor.

As for the cycling, a well designed cooling unit should have a thermostat
sensor that has enough mass that it reads the average temperature & does
not respond to temporary drafts of warm air when the door opens.

Also note that web searches turn up mostly press releases & customer
testimonials, & zero studies. Some of these testimonials even state that
their equipment is already lasting longer. I doubt this product has been
around long enough to determine statistically if it is improving the life
of equipment.

So, I can see that for some specific refrigeration units with poorly
designed or positioned sensors that it might have some small benefits, I
can not see massive 30% energy savings without a corresponding increase in
food temperature & the risk of large losses from food spoilage & food
poisoning.

I would wait & see - not so much to save a few dollars, but to avoid the
risk of food spoilage. If poor thermostat behavior is truly a problem, all
the HVAC & equipment vendors will start offering redesigned sensors.
